10-Year-Old Hollie Steel Breaks Down On 'Britain's Got Talent'
Susan Boyle isn’t the only one feeling the “Britain’s Got Talent” pressure.
Hollie Steel, another frontrunner in the competition, who previously made headlines around the world after stunning the reality show’s judges in an early round with her big, Julie Andrews-esque voice, ran into trouble while performing on Friday night’s last semi-final round. The 10-year-old from Accrington, Lancashire, broke down on live TV during her performance of “Eidelweiss,” faltering halfway through the song and beginning to sob before stepping off stage to be comforted by her mother.
The young singer asked if she could try the song again – a first for the reality competition’s live round.
After the hosts initially told Hollie there wouldn’t be time for her to do another performance, judge Simon Cowell told her, “We’re going to find the time.”
“While you were on it, you were brilliant,” he added. “Everyone gets nervous, everyone falls apart.”
After a commercial break, Hollie returned to the stage and issued a confident version of the song – a performance good enough to launch her into the finals on Saturday night, where she will face off again Susan and other contenders including 12-year-old Shaheen Jafargholi.
“Hollie, you are officially now the bravest girl in the world,” Simon told her following the song.
