Some of the biggest stars in the world said, “I don’t” in 2012, when they split with their significant other.

Earlier in our Top 12 Headlines of 2012 countdown, we ran down the list of the celebrity weddings in 2012. Today, though, from Tom and Katie to Johnny and Vanessa, we look at the biggest breakups of the year.

They celebrated their anniversary every year around May, but in January 2012, the fairytale was over for supermodel Heidi and her husband, singer Seal. “While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul searching we have decided to separate,” the couple said in a joint statement on January 22, noting they had “grown apart.”

Despite the announcement (which came just as the singer began promoting his new album, “Soul 2”), Seal honored his scheduled interview a few days later on Access Hollywood Live. On our set (in this video HERE), he revealed how the pair told their children.

Heidi ended up moving on by summer, with someone she’d grown to trust over the years – Martin Kristen – her longtime bodyguard.

Despite three beloved children and 11 years of marriage, original “90210” darling Jennie Garth and “Twilight” vampire dad Peter Facinelli filed for divorce in March. Just like Seal, news of Jennie’s split came just as she was promoting something – in her case, a reality show, “Jennie Garth: A Little Bit Country,” and she opened up about how she was doing HERE, in this clip from Access Hollywood Live.

By the end of the year, Jennie had started dating again, while Peter found romance with “Thor” actress Jaimie Alexander, who is a guest player on his Showtime series, “Nurse Jackie.”

June gloom came down hard for some relationships many thought were going strong – Johnny Depp and longtime partner Vanessa Paradis, and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

The “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise star and his French chanteuse confirmed they had split, “amicably” after 14 years together on June 19.

Ten days later, the TomKat breakup bombshell broke when Katie filed for divorce, the news of which hit the wires on June 29. “Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” Tom’s rep told Access at the time.

Just a little over a week later, the pair helped put a quick stop to the rumor mill by settling their divorce.

2012 was the summer of love for Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy (the grandson of the late Robert Kennedy). The two were spotted all over Cape Cod, holding hands, and Conor’s grandmother even told the media the family would “be so lucky” if she joined their brood. Sadly, by October, Taylor’s brief moment in the Camelot sun was over. It’s OK. She’s since rebounded with One Direction’s Harry Styles.
