9 Mom-To-Be Must Haves

In today’s Glam Slam feature: We’re in the midst of yet another Hollywood baby boom with Mila Kunis, Ginnifer Goodwin, Scarlett Johansson and Stacy Keibler all expecting.

Allyson Downey, founder of weeSpring, a social review site for baby products (think of it as a Yelp for baby gear), offers some must-haves for new moms and dads.

The Swaddle Blanket:
You’ve seen these on Prince George and every one you know, but the reason these get our “Love It!” rating is because they’re versatile. They can be used as a swaddle, a nursing cover and a baby blanket. And for young stars-to-be, these large swaddle blankets serve as ideal “paparazzi shields” for strollers.

The Baby Carrier:
There are lots of brands out there that are comfortable for baby and parents. Almost all of the most popular brands receive top notch ratings. Not only does baby wearing help newborns feel comforted and soothed, but as new parents venturing out in the world with a seemingly fragile newborn, a baby carrier can keep little ones close and protected. They’re also a great way to make a parenting statement, from wraps to slings to more structured carriers, there’s an option for any parenting style.

The Car Seat:
As all car seats in the US pass the same safety standards, finding the best car seat is really about meeting your family, budget and style needs. But “love it” or not, new parents can’t leave the hospital or birthing center without a car seat, so this is a must-have and always top of our parents’ “Newborn Necessities” lists.

The Stroller:
Yes every season, there’s a new “Rolls-Royce” of strollers. Especially for LA & NYC parents, strollers can be considered status symbols. The most important thing to consider when choosing a stroller is your lifestyle and car size (and of course your style preference). We’ve tested and tried most of the major brands, and everyone has some useful and thoughtful features from jogging to portability.

The Mommy Workout:
As parents dive into their new role, they often forget to take care of themselves. As much as we’re a service for products, we really believe that parenthood is all about balance. To help new moms get back into shape, there are a number of workouts geared towards post-natal recovery. Popular celebrity trainers have even created post-pregnancy regimens, but basic yoga and running are just as great for some mommy “me” time.

Sunglasses:
Shades for mommy & baby are essential for sun protection, but they have an added bonus of covering up mommy’s sleep-deprived eye bags while making baby look photo-worthy.

Hat for Mom:
Parents get stir crazy and we have to get out of the house, but even stars don’t have time or energy for full hairstyling services as they’re caring for a newborn. So a hat is the quick and easy solution to still look like a style-savvy mom.

Subscription Services:
From gourmet dinner kits to boxes of the latest and greatest goods for baby (and mom) you can get just about anything delivered to your door (making it easy to avoid the paps). One of the fastest growing areas on our site are the subscription and services. These services are a great way to experience new brands and products without the commitment.

Smart Phone Compatible Monitors:
Whether your cooking dinner or squeezing in a quick at-home work out, you can keep tabs on baby from anywhere with a wi-fi app. These monitors are usually one of the highest rated on weeSpring.
