LONDON, England --
David Beckham was honored for his contributions to soccer with a tribute dinner, put on by the UK’s Football Writers Association in London on Sunday night.
“It’s an incredible honor to receive this award. Football writers have followed my career from when I was a young player at Manchester United up to now. It’s great to receive this recognition from those who follow and love the game,” David said.
During the dinner, a former coach of England’s national soccer team suggested that the team’s new coach, Fabio Capello, should play Beckham in a match next month against Swizterland.
If Becks plays in the game, it would be his 100th ever appearance for his national team.
Becks recently wrapped up his first year on the LA Galaxy squad.
After spending some time supporting his wife, Victoria, on her tour with the Spice Girls, David was most recently spotted in London, getting some soccer practice in with London-based team, Arsenal.
