LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

An emotional Whoopi Goldberg said she was upset after being left out of an Oscars montage, showing hosts of the famed awards show over the years.

And now, Oscar producer Gil Cates is offering his apology, calling Whoopi’s absence an “absolute oversight.”

“No harm was intended, and I feel very, very badly that she was left out," Gil Cates said on Tuesday, according to People. "I'm going to call her and tell her that."

Cates also said that the montage “was not a montage about hosts,” but rather was “supposed to be a montage of 80 exciting moments of the Academy Awards.”

In supporting his point, Cates also noted that former Oscar host Steve Martin was also missing from the video piece.

Goldberg, an Oscar-winner in 1990 for her role in “Ghost,” hosted the awards in 2002, 1999, 1996 and 1994.

Following Sunday’s Academy Awards, Whoopi talked about being left out of the montage on Monday’s “The View.”

"Undoubtedly I (bleeped) somebody off yet again," Whoopi said. "You know what, I don't — I don't know."

However, the comedian/actress was featured in one segment during the show, as she was included in the Best Supporting Actress montage.
