LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
Despite a report from the Huffington Post claiming NBC chief White House correspondent David Gregory is poised to take over as the permanent host of “Meet the Press,” a rep from the network said there is no announcement to make.
The Huffington Post’s report claimed that Gregory would take over for interim host, Tom Brokaw, who has served as the show’s host following Tim Russert’s death in June.
However, NBC would not confirm that Gregory had been chosen to take over.
“We have no announcement to make, and we are not making an announcement tomorrow,” an NBC News spokeswoman said Monday night in a statement released to Access Hollywood.
According to the Huffington Post, Andrea Michell, Gwen Ifill, and Chuck Todd were also considered for the position, while CBS’s Katie Couric and ABC’s Ted Koppel were said to be “dark horses” for the spot left vacant by Russert, who served as “Meet the Press” moderator for 17 years.
Brokaw will end his run as interim host this Sunday with an interview with President-elect Barack Obama.
