NEW YORK, NY --
The director of Heath ledger’s last film is working furiously to save the picture, actor Christopher Plummer, told People.
Director Terry Gilliam is working hard to salvage “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” in honor of the late actor, Ledger’s co-star, Plummer said.
"Terry was a very good friend [of Heath's]," the veteran actor said. "He very wants to go on with the movie, and I can very much understand why. Because he wants to dedicate it to Heath, of course."
Plummer and Ledger were due to carry on shoots for the film next week in Vancouver.
They had wrapped up the London scenes for the film the weekend before Ledger’s death, according to People.
Plummer said before his death, Ledger was enjoying himself on the “Imaginarium” set.
"Heath was in very high spirits. He was just enjoying himself tremendously. It's a rather fanciful script, and he was wonderful in this role,” Plummer said.
Though he enjoyed his part, Plummer (who plays the title character) said the London shoot made them all sick.
Plummer told People that the actor did not remedy the situation quickly.
“We all caught colds because we were shooting outside on horrible, damp nights. But Heath's went on and I don't think he dealt with it immediately with the antibiotics,” Plummer noted. “I think what he did have was the walking pneumonia."
On top of that, "He was saying all the time, 'dammit, I can't sleep'…and he was taking all these pills [to help him]."
