LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
The 50th anniversary of the Grammys brought out dozens of legends, but calling one of them “the queen,” has upset Aretha Franklin.
In a statement, Franklin expressed her dismay at Beyonce calling her on-stage Grammy collaborator, Tina Turner, by the title, usually reserved for the “Respect” singer.
"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy,” Aretha said in a statement according to People. “In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyonce anyway."
Franklin, who performed her own collaboration at the Grammys is generally referred to as “the Queen of Soul.”
