LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

The women of Wisteria Lane are gearing up for the new season of Desperate Housewives, and judging from the just released season five photos of the ladies looking as stunning as ever, there’s a lot in store!

It has been confirmed that the new season will take place five years into the future, which was foreshadowed by the final episode of the past season.

Season four ended with a big cliffhanger – Edie Britt had left, Gabrielle Solis was a mother, and Susan Mayers had a new leading man in her life.

Teri Hatcher, who plays Susan, told Access in July at the ABC Television Critics Association presentation, “The best thing about it is it just gives this whole wealth of opportunity for new story lines. There’s action there’s violence, there’s sex.”

James Denton, who plays Mike, told People magazine that he will definitely be returning for the new season. However, “Mike and Susan have definitely split up,” Denton told the mag.

It seems as if the Desperate Housewives may only be on Wisteria Lane for a few more years.

“Desperate Housewives” creator and executive producer Marc Cherry told a meeting of the Television Critics Association that he plans to end the ABC series after seven seasons.

“I love working with these gals, but the idea of letting anyone else take the show from me kind of makes me sad and sick to my stomach,” Cherry told the Associate Press. “We’re going to get out while people still like us.”

“Of course,” he added, “this could be some clever ruse on my part to get tremendous amounts of money in season eight, but who knows.”
