NEW YORK, N.Y. -- In the AccessHollywood.com “Week In Geek,” Orlando Bloom gets close to sealing the deal for “The Hobbit”… Danny McBride praises co-star Natalie Portman in “Your Highness”… Tom Welling reflects on “Smallville” as it heads to its series finale… And new “Green Lantern” footage wows the web…
ORLANDO BLOOM’S RETURN TO MIDDLE EARTH – Legolas the Elf is expected to appear in “The Hobbit,” Orlando Bloom told Collider.
“I’m really excited about going to see Pete [Jackson] again. It’s still a little up in the air, but the idea of working with Pete is fantastic,” he revealed.
Bloom is close to joining fellow returning “Lord Of The Rings” cast mates Elijah Wood (Frodo Baggins), Ian McKellen (Gandalf), Andy Serkis (Gollum), and Cate Blanchett (whose Galadriel, like Bloom’s Legolas, is also an elf) in director Peter Jackson’s epic two part, 3-D prequel.
“I can’t actually really talk too much about it, at this point. I just was given the script to piece through, so it’s quite exciting,” he said.
Bloom also revealed he has the entire script in his possession and will be playing a younger version of his character in the films.
DANNY MCBRIDE PRAISES NATALIE PORTMAN & “YOUR HIGHNESS” RAUNCHINESS — “We didn’t want to make a spoof, we wanted to make an ‘80s fantasy film,” Danny McBride told AccessHollywood.com at NY Comic-Con last October.
“It is an action, hard ‘R’ comedy throwback to ‘Conan the Barbarian,’ ‘Krull,’ and ‘Dragonslayer.’ All these amazing fantasy films I grew up on. It is a hard ‘R’ indeed. I think we found a nice balance of raunchiness and medieval high speak,” he said.
McBride was also amazed by co-star Natalie Portman, who swings swords right along side the rest of the cast. “She was the one we always wanted for this film and when she said she wanted to participate, it blew us away. We were stoked about it. She’s really amazing in it. She’s really funny and she plays a hardened Red Sonja-type.”
TOM WELLING REVEALS HIS THOUGHTS ON “SMALLVILLE”SERIES FINALE — “This show, to me, has always been about Clark Kent, it hasn’t been about Superman,” Tom Welling told TV Guide regarding “Smallville.”
“And it was very important at the end that we make sure that we wrap up the Clark Kent story,” he added.
The CW show hits the home stretch next Friday leading up to its May 13 series finale after a 10-year run.
“The last scene of the last episode was always going to be Clark putting on the suit and flying off into his destiny,” said Al Gough, who co-created the show and served as executive producer until 2007. “And my guess is that, when we all see the finale, it will be some version of that.”
“I will just say to keep watching through the whole two hours,” said current executive producer Kelly Souders regarding the question of whether Tom Welling take to the sky in the iconic red and blue Superman costume.
“There is a very, very special moment that we love, and everyone who is looking for that moment won’t be disappointed,” she promised.

“APES” REBOOT RECLAIMS A PLANETARY TITLE — 20th Century Fox continues to monkey around with the big screen return of those “damn dirty apes” in their upcoming re-imagining of the “Planet of the Apes” series starring James Franco, Frieda Pinto, John Lithgow, and Andy Serkis. According to Slash Film, to link the film closer to the previous six entries in the sci-fi franchise, Fox has adjusted the title to the more recognizable “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” from “Rise of the Apes.”
NEW “GREEN LANTERN”FOOTAGE WOWS WONDERCON -- The talk of the town coming out of San Francisco’s WonderCon last weekend was a long awaited extended look at footage from Warner Bros. big screen version of DC Comics’ “Green Lantern,” starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively.
Eager fans and industry observers alike were growing anxious over the lack of new scenes from the film since the first trailer debuted last November, while Marvel Studios grabbed the spotlight with impressive first looks at “Captain America” and “Thor” in the interim. All three superhero films will battle it out at the box office this summer.
An impressive four-minute trailer from the WonderCon presentation was released online which highlights the epic science fiction scope of the film (in contrast to the one-liner heavy first trailer that online fans were hesitant to rally behind). Needless to say, the anticipation level for the June 17 release of “Green Lantern” has been raised.
NEW “THOR” CLIP WITH “HAWKEYE” CAMEO – IGN scored an exclusive clip from this summer’s “Thor” that features a lighting quick cameo of the Norse God of Thunder’s “Avengers” teammate “Hawkeye,” played by Jeremy Renner. Check it out HERE.
