Sylvester Stallone and his beefy buddies have muscled their way to the top of the weekend box office.
Stallone’s action hero roundup “The Expendables 2” debuted at No. 1 with $28.8 million. That’s down from the $34.8 million start for “The Expendables” two years ago.

The cast of “The Expendables 2” say they’re giving co-star and writer Sylvester Stallone space after the death of his son last month.
Stallone’s 36-year-old son Sage died on July 13 in his Los Angeles home — a day after Stallone was joined by Arnold Schwarzenegger and other “Expendables” stars at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Jean-Claude Van Damme will roundhouse kick his way back onto the big screen this summer in “Expendables 2” and the 51-year-old star says fans should expect some exciting action from the beefy cast in the highly-anticipated sequel.
“I think ‘Expendables [2]’ is gonna be a great film — we have all of those action stars from the past,” he told Access Hollywood at Spike TV’s 6th Annual Guys Choice Awards in Culver City, Calif., on Saturday.
