Adam Levine will make his debut as host of “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, and the Maroon 5 frontman says his joy over landing the coveted gig is keeping his anxiety at bay.
“I’m not nervous and the only reason why [is because] I’m excited,” Adam told Access Hollywood at an “SNL” rehearsal in New York City on Thursday. “It’s just so much fun, that you really don’t have time to be nervous.”
While the “Voice” coach has been calm during the rehearsal process, he fully anticipates the arrival of butterflies come Saturday.
“[I’ll] probably [get nervous], but in a good way,” he said, jokingly adding, “Good nerves — like I’m going to pee in my pants!”
The singer was photographed filming a digital short in Los Angeles earlier this week with the boys of The Lonely Island (Adam was dressed as a transient wearing a tinfoil hat, holding a sign reading, “YOLO”), but Adam said he’s sworn to secrecy regarding details of the sketch.
“I can’t really [say] much about that because [Andy] Samberg will kill me!” he said. “It’s under wraps, but it’s going to be great and I just can’t wait to be part of their first one back because — as people may or may not know — they’re not on the show anymore.
“But what’s cool is that they thought of me when coming back for the first time,” he added. “So, I’m very flattered by that.”
While Adam – who recently made his acting debut on “American Horror Story: Asylum” – said he’s enjoying this new phase of his career, he’s not quite ready to call himself an “actor.”
“It’s really fun. I mean, listen, I probably would just never call myself an actor because that would sound awful,” he said. “I’m just someone that’s doing, trying new things in life and this happens to where I’m at and we’ll see how it goes.”
Catch Adam with musical guest Kendrick Lamar this Saturday at 11:30 PM on NBC.
