NEW YORK, New York --

Adam Lambert might have been edited by the American Music Awards and canceled on by “Good Morning America,” but he has a champion in Rosie O’Donnell.

“There’s a triple standard, not only women, but gay people,” Rosie told Access Hollywood Monday night at her Broadway Extravaganza at the Palace Theatre in New York City, referring to the controversy surrounding his AMA performance on Sunday, which was edited for the west coast feed of the awards show.

“He’s an out gay man and he’s out in the world. He’s allowed to be as flamboyant as he wants to be,” Rosie continued. “I’m proud of him and I think he’s a very talented guy.”

Despite receiving some flack for the musical elements of his headline-making performance, Rosie thinks the “American Idol” season eight runner-up will go far.

“I think he’s going to have a huge career,” Rosie told Access. “And I thought [his AMA performance] was fantastic.”
