The Top 3 took to the “American Idol” stage on Wednesday night, pulling out powerful performances, including one from Candice Glover that left judge Nicki Minaj convinced the contestant will be back to battle it out for the Season 12 crown.
“See ya next week,” Nicki told Candice, who received a standing ovation from the entire audience after she performed “West Side Story’s” “Somewhere.”
But there are two spots in the finals, and with legions of fans for each of the three women – Candice, Angie Miller and Kree Harrison – it’s still anyone’s game.
Here’s how it all went down…
Round 1: Songs chosen by Jimmy Iovine
Kree Harrison performed Pink’s “Perfect”
Nicki complimented Kree on the “quality” of her voice, but said the song “felt very short.” Randy Jackson wasn’t won over, telling the singer, “I didn’t love that song so much for you.”
Candice Glover performed U2’s “One”
Although she noted that Mary J. Blige’s own version of “One” is incredible, Nicki thought Candice’s version compared. “You are a diva,” she said. “You did that justice. … That did not feel like ‘American Idol.’ That felt like I was at your show.” Randy, however, said he didn’t think everything was “perfect.”
Angie Miller performed Elton John’s “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word”
Mariah Carey told Angie she “really enjoyed the performance.” Keith Urban said he “would have been happy with” Angie “holding back… a little more.”
Round 2: Songs chosen by the judges
Candice performed Emeli Sande’s “Next To Me”
Nicki teared up while complimenting Candice and told her, “I’m so proud of you.” Randy said she was “amazing, vocally.”
Angie performed Pink’s “Try”
Mariah was impressed by Angie’s rendition, telling her, “You performed like never before.”
Kree performed Rascal Flatts’ “Here Comes Goodbye”
Keith loved every second and said, “You had me from beginning to end.” Nicki told Kree, “You sang it like a pro. This was one of your best performances to date.”
Angie performed Emile Sande’s “Maybe”
Randy told Angie, “You sang your heart out right there,” and added that she “became a complete performer.”
Kree performed The Band Perry’s “Better Dig Two”
Keith said he “liked that song,” but wasn’t sure it was “the place for” her. “It didn’t feel right for me,” he added. Nicki (in her British accent) said, “Whoever picked that for you should be stoned.”
Candice performed the “West Side Story” song “Somewhere”
Keith was floored and told America, “If you wanna vote for Candice, dial the number on your screen. If you don’t want to vote for Candice, call your doctor. You probably don’t have a pulse.” Randy too was impressed, stating, “She had one of the best vocals in ‘Idol’ history. Guess what? She’s got another one!”
