LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

“Julie & Julia” star Amy Adams will turn 35 in August, but despite being engaged, she is in no rush to walk down the aisle with fiance and fellow actor Darren Le Gallo.

“We haven’t even started with the date,” Amy told Allure magazine’s August 2009 issue. “I’ve been really busy, and I feel like a horrible fiancee that I haven’t gotten swept up in the whole idea of a wedding. But I haven’t.”

Amy said Darren, who she co-starred with in 2006’s “Pennies,” is the one in their relationship most eager to say “I do.”

“I think he was patient for the first nine months, but now that we have been engaged for a year, he’s sort of, you know, ‘This is going to happen, right?’” she explained. “He understands I’m busy, but he’s ready. He’s much more ready for kids and stuff than I am.”

The actress told the magazine it took her a while to find the right one. And looking back on her younger days, Amy said she wishes she could have spent them differently – instead of pursuing the wrong types of men.

“When I look at my 20s, or when I look at any period in my life, I think about how much time I’ve wasted trying to find the right man. It’s like, if I could go back and do it again, I would have taken guitar lessons or something. I would have put my energy into something that paid off in the end, instead of trying to improve myself for men,” she said. “Oh, the time and the energy, trying to impress somebody who was actually a big jerk, you know?

“But the truth is, once you have a great man in your life, it allows you — at least for me — to look at yourself and grow as an individual,” she continued. “And gosh, if I had known I was going to find this, my 20s would have been completely.”

One thing she wouldn’t have changed from her earlier days? Adopting her trademark red hair color.

“It just suits my personality better,” she said. “My dad’s got red hair; all of his family has red hair. I just didn’t get the gene, but I got everything else – the skin coloring, the intolerance to the sun, the temper.”
