LOS ANGELES, Calif. --
That sour puss who has been clogging up your Facebook feed is coming to big screen – but can Grumpy Cat act?
According to Deadline, the cranky kitty, who was voted Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, has landed a movie deal for a project said to be a family comedy.
Grumpy Cat’s manager (yes, the cat – whose names is Tardar Sauce – has a team) told Buzzfeed that the movie will be live-action with the online feline sensation appearing on screen.
“This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy,” producer Todd Garner told Deadline. “You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character.”
With almost 1 million Facebook likes and 120,000 YouTube subscribers, Grumpy Cat is no stranger to life in the spotlight. The cat has also appeared on a slew of TV and news programs including NBC’s “Today” show, “Good Morning America,” “CBS Evening News,” “Anderson Cooper Live,” “VH1 Morning Buzz” and “The Soup.”
