LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- After years of waiting, wondering and hoping – fans of “Arrested Development” now have May 26 to look forward to, when the beloved comedy returns with new episodes on Netflix.
The fourth season – consisting of all 15 episodes – about the misadventures of the Bluth family will premiere on the streaming service at 12:01 AM PDT in territories where Netflix is available – the U.S., Canada, the UK, Ireland, Latin America, Brazil and the Nordics (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden).
”‘Arrested Development’ is now widely viewed as one of the top TV comedies of all time and Mitch Hurwitz is bringing it to Netflix in a brand new way, crafted for the on-demand generation that has come to discover the show in the years since it last appeared on TV,” Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix, said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “The highly anticipated return of this show is sure to make history all over again.”
“Arrested” centers around Michael Bluth (Jason Bateman) and his eccentric family comprised of his son George Michael (Michael Cera), his father George Bluth Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor), his mother Lucille (Jessica Walter), his brothers George Oscar Bluth II (Will Arnett), Buster Bluth (Tony Hale) and sister Lindsay Funke (Portia de Rossi), and Lindsay’s husband Tobias (David Cross) and their daughter Maeby (Alia Shawkat).
But is Season 4 on Netflix a precursor for a possible movie?
Executive producer (and the show’s narrator) Ron Howard previously told Access Hollywood that a movie is a possibility.
“We’re still hoping to build to a movie and in a lot of ways… Getting the Bluth family on people’s radar, in a kind of contemporary way, [is] so we can move forward with it as a movie,” Ron told Access last month, explaining that the movie has yet to be green lit. “It’s not a happening thing, but it’s something that is being discussed.”
