NEW YORK (December 22, 2006) — Cris Judd has a new dancing show. So does Jennifer Lopez. So how does Judd feel competing with his ex-wife?

?I would never wish for something to be a failure,” the 37-year-old dancer-choreographer told AP Television in a recent interview.

“Everyone’s trying to get by and everyone’s trying to do their best and you can only hope for the best and you can wish for the best for someone,” he continued. “So, hopefully both shows will be successful and they can both coincide and we’ll have a great time.”

Judd’s show is the reality competition “Dirty Dancing” on the Women’s Entertainment cable channel, airing Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST. Lopez is producing MTV’s “DanceLife,” about six aspiring dancers struggling to make it. The eight-episode series premieres Jan. 15 at 10:30 p.m. Judd’s show was inspired by the ‘80s classic “Dirty Dancing,” starring Jennifer Grey as rich girl Baby and Patrick Swayze as poor dance instructor Johnny. The premise: Eighteen women compete at a summer camp for a dance contract and the right to play Baby — to whichever professional ballroom dancer becomes Johnny — during the finale.

Judd said things can get steamy on the dance floor.

“It can get sexy,” he said. “You’re with this person almost 24 hours a day and you’re doing everything together and dancing can get heated especially when you dance with a partner and you’re dancing sensual…”

Lopez, 38, married first husband Ojani Noa in 1997 and divorced a year later. Her second marriage to Judd in 2001 lasted for nine months. In 2004, she tied the knot with singer Marc Anthony.
