LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

The entertainment industry continues to contribute to the global cause with today’s announcement that the Emmy Awards are going green!

As part of Fox’s “Green with Emmy” campaign, the show’s Shrine Auditorium location will be powered by renewable energy for the month of September, sourced from a combination of solar energy, wind energy and hydropower.

Additionally, a solar panel canopy is being installed over the Red Carpet grandstand for the show, reducing the amount of power pulled from generators and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

After the show, the solar panel system is being donated to a middle school in Chatsworth, CA.

Other facets of the “Green with Emmy” campaign include a red carpet made entirely of recycled plastic bottles, a recycling program across all areas of production, and hybrid and alternative fuel vehicles for transporting talent.

Even the food is part of the campaign, as locally grown and/or organic foods will be served to production staff, press and event guests.

The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards airs live Sunday, Sept. 16 at 8:00 PM (ET) on Fox.
