PARIS, France --

David Beckham became the fifth person to play 100 soccer matches representing England, earlier today.

Beckham’s 100th match was a friendly one, against France.

The 32-year-old is often referred to as “Golden Balls” for the way he masters a soccer ball on the pitch, but they may start calling him Golden Cleats after he was spotted in boots bearing that color, during the game.

France won the match, but it was a thrilling moment for the Los Angeles Galaxy star.

“I’m very honored,” he said after the match, The Sun reported. “Straight from when I started playing for England I never dreamed I’d get 100 caps, and hopefully beyond… Just to go over the 100 mark is a proud moment.”

And the star said, it was made even more special thanks to his family – including wife Victoria “Posh Spice” — who watched him from up in the bleachers.

“To play my 100th game [in] front of my family makes me so proud,” he said.

Beckham played two-thirds of the game before being substituted.

The coach, Fabio Capello said the only reason he took Beckham out of the game was to check out some of Becks’ teammates.

“He was fit and could have carried on playing,” the coach reportedly said. “I subbed him because I needed to see other players as well.”

Beckham and his family were planning a celebration in Paris following the match, People reported.
