LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Madonna is closer to having her adoption of son David Banda finalized, Reuters’ Africa bureau reported.

The Malawi High Court received a recommendation from the country’s government, that they approve her adoption, according to the news agency.

According to Reuters, the government said the “4 Minutes To Save The World” singer and her film director husband, Guy Ritchie, were acceptable parents for the boy, in a confidential report.

“In the best interest of the child, I do recommend the petitioners to your Lordship for your consideration that they be granted an adoption order having proved that they are suitable parents and satisfied the conditions in the Interim Adoption Order,” a report, signed by Probation Officer S. Chisale, read.

Meanwhile, Madonna recently asked for an extension to appear in front of the court for an adoption hearing because of promotional obligations.

David has been living with Madonna and her husband, Guy Ritchie, since 2006, when the pop star began adoption proceedings.

In a cover story last month in Interview magazine, Madonna said David survived thanks to her intervention.

“I promise you, he wouldn’t have lived if I hadn’t taken him,” she told the magazine. “It’s not even a possibility.”
