LOS ANGELES, Calif. --

Meet Adele. She’s one of the “new Amys” — the term the UK press has given to the big-voiced girl singers who are taking over.

Duffy is part of the group, and since On the Download told you about her earlier this year, she’s gone on to great things, including a performance on “The Tonight Show,” sold out dates in New York, Los Angeles and Austin, and her face in nearly every music mag around.

Now Adele is poised for great things in America too.

She’s only 20, doe-eyed and dewy-skinned, but her big soulful voice has Adele (no last name please) catching a lot of attention, including ours.

Adele’s debut album, “19,” named after the age she recorded it at, is full of powerful songs. Sometimes she’s simply backed by just a guitar, like on “Crazy For You,” but she gives goose bump-inducing performances.

She’s like a cross between Amy Winehouse and earthier British chanteuse Beth Orton, and quite simply, fabulous.
