’24’ Star Kiefer Sutherland Released From Jail After 48 Days

A police official says that Kiefer Sutherland has been released from jail after serving forty-eight days on a drunken driving charge.

Two police spokesmen did not return phone calls seeking confirmation of a story on People magazine’s Web site saying the 41-year-old actor walked out of jail at 12:05 a.m. Monday, hours earlier than had been expected by the media.

But a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity and wasn’t authorized to speak publicly confirmed that the star of Fox television’s “24” had been released.

Sutherland pleaded no contest in October to driving with a blood-alcohol level above the legal limit of 0.08 percent. He was sentenced to thirty days, as well as eighteen days for violating probation stemming from a 2004 drunken-driving arrest.
