5 Kids Style Trends For 2014 (Glam Slam)

When I picked up my daughter from school earlier this week, she said, “Look Mommy, we have the same pants!” And sure enough, coincidentally, we both had on matching camo pants.

There are more choices than ever for stylish kids clothing and Hollywood continues to be a big influence, particularly celebrities and their fashion forward kids.

Gary Osborne, child style expert and founder of Oliver & Adelaide, offers his predictions for the top kids fashion trends for 2014:

Hipster Punksters:
For years, we’ve seen Gwen Stefani and her minis (pictured), Kingston & Zuma Rossdale, set the trend with their rocker style. In 2014, you’ll be seeing a twist on this trend — the Hipster with a punch of Punk. As the music scene embodies this style more and more, the clothing choices of kids and their parents will also evolve to fit this style direction.

Costumes For Everyday:
We’ve all seen it — Batman at the playground, a fairy princess at the grocery store. We love it when parents encourage kids to channel their creativity and imagination wherever they are. Of course, it’s even more fun when the whole family joins in! Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka’s kids started this trend and we’re excited to see what they’ll do with it in 2014. Expect whimsical clothes that are cute enough to take kids from a morning play date to lunch at the cafe. Our favorite shop for “let’s play pretend” pieces: Chasing Fireflies.

Hippy Chics:
Halle Berry’s hippy-chic child Nahla Aubry tops the list for this easy, breezy style but we predict this trend will be popular not just for beachside boys and girls. Why? Because this trend is not only stylish, but also totally comfortable for kids. Our favorite sites for a casual, cool look are Masala Baby and Zuzii. We especially love the Zuzii sandals, American-made right here in LA!

Kids Will Be Kids:
We love that the Garner-Affleck gang always looks like they are ready to play. It’s all about comfort and easy-to-wear clothes with a carefree spirit. The go-to places for their all-American style? Mini Boden and of course our favorite Target (aka Tarjay).

Custom, Handmade Style:
With stylish, high-quality clothing so accessible now, celebrities look for something more with custom, handmade pieces. Kourtney Kardashian enjoyed clothing, gifts, and toys from Oliver & Adelaide, the purveyor of American-made, luxury baby gifts. There’s nothing like knowing not only the materials your kids are wearing and playing with, but also the makers of them. That is true, one-of-a-kind, star style.
