ABC Asks Regis Philbin To Compete On ‘Dancing’’ Will He Do It?

Regis Philbin is months away from departing “Live! with Regis and Kelly,” but could a mirrorball trophy be in his post-morning show plans?

The longtime talk show host admitted he has been courted to serve as a contestant on “Dancing with the Stars.”

“This is breaking news: Regis was invited yesterday to become a dancer on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’” he revealed on Wednesday’s show.

“I love it!” Kelly responded. “I would pay money to see you in spandex!”

“Would I have to wear spandex?” Regis asked.

“Everyday,” Kelly smiled.

The two even considered whether Regis, if he joined the show, could become part of the first same-sex pair.

“I actually prefer you dancing with a man, because whoever that lady is, she’d have some heavy lifting to do,” Kelly said, straight-faced.

Regis said there is only one man he’d want to be paired with.

“I want Derek Hough, or it’s no deal,” he chimed in about the three-time mirrorball champ, who is currently taking a break from the show to start his film career.

“I like when he throws the arm out,” Regis said of Derek’s moves, tossing his own arm back. “All of a sudden I’m getting into it, baby!”

If he does decide to do the show, Regis wouldn’t be the oldest contender on “Dancing.” He is just 79, while Buzz Aldrin was 80 when he competed during Season 10 and Cloris Leachman was 82 when she competed during Season 7.
