Abigail Breslin Faces A Mob Of ‘American Girls’

Eleven-year-old Abigail Breslin lit up the big screen with her Oscar-nominated performance in “Little Miss Sunshine,” and now she’s working her magic in a role that would make any young girl jealous.

Breslin plays the title character in “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Mystery,” based on the wildly popular “American Girl” line of dolls.

Breslin told Access about the exciting new role: “Well, in the movie [Kit] is trying — it started in the great depression, and her family is going through some challenges, and everyone’s just trying to work together to keep their house and keep their family together.”

And hundreds of girls showed up yesterday for a chance to act alongside Breslin, when the American Girl Place in New York City was literally mobbed by young hopefuls seeking a role in the film. The lines for the open-auditions stretched around the block at the midtown Manhattan location.

“I’ve seen them all today,” said Breslin. “There’s a lot of girls out here today, so that’s pretty cool.”

And what was her advice for the young actresses?

“Just, you know, have a lot of fun,” she said. “And it’s really cool that they came out here, and came to do this for the American Girl doll. It’s fun. Just have a lot of fun.”

And Breslin took her own advice, playing with some dolls during the tryouts.

“We take our dolls and we go up to the cafe upstairs, and we eat with our dolls and it’s lot of fun,” she explained, adding that her cousin joins her in some “American Girl” fun at home.

“We had gotten them some of the outfits. And we went home and we put on the outfits on them and we did little fashion shows with our dolls.”

Spoken like a true American Girl!
