Access Hollywood Spotlight: Pink Gets Real

She was tossed out of her house in her teens and smoking at a young age, but these days, Pink is all grown up at 31.

Billy Bush visited the singer on the set of her latest music video and put her in the Access Hollywood Spotlight.

Unguarded and cool, Pink introduced herself to Access’ entire crew as Alecia, her real name.

The star’s “Greatest Hits… So Far!!!” album, which includes brand new single, “Raise Your Glass,” is something she calls an ode to those she considers her people – the underdogs.

“I know it’s funny when a world wide pop star says ‘underdog,’ but I’ve always kind of felt like an underdog so it’s kind of for all of us,” she said.

“When did you first start feeling like an underdog?” Billy asked.

“When I came out of my mom’s vagina,” she said bluntly, as Billy laughed.

Pink’s parents divorced when she was 7. She began smoking at age 9 and by her early teens, Pink was doing acid, ecstasy and running away from home.

“Didn’t they toss you out when you were 15 years old?” Billy asked.

“Mmmhmm,” she nodded. “I deserved it. I would have kicked me out when I was 8.”

“How do you toss out a 15-year-old?” Billy asked.

“Have you ever… you didn’t meet me at 15,” she said.

“I’m trying to… I mean, I see you now and I see a lot of fire, but yet I see someone who is comfortable with who they are,” Billy said.

“Yes, and I was not comfortable with authority or rules… I was bad,” she explained.

In the years since, Pink and her parents have become close.

“I think parents need to beat the crap out of their kids,” Pink said.

“Really?” Billy asked.

“Yes, I think the whole spanking and how it’s all gotten P.C. is just for the birds,” she said.

“Did your father spank you?” Billy asked.

“Oh, he put me through a wall. It’s the only reason I’m still here,” she replied. “It’s the only reason I’m still alive.”

“Are you kind of amazed at all that you made it? I mean to this stage?” Billy continued.

“Yes,” she said.

“And you didn’t go off the tracks and crash and burn?” he asked.

“No, ‘cause I did all the crashing and burning early, I got that out of the way and thank God ‘cause I didn’t have to do what poor Lindsay Lohan is doing or any of the others where everyone is watching me screw up.”

In 2006, Pink famously mocked the young party girls of Hollywood in her video, “Stupid Girls.”

“How do you feel about the ‘Stupid Girls’ that you’ve…” Billy began, as Pink chimed in.

“It went from being really funny to really sad,” she explained. “It went from just partying and maybe hitting a person or two in a car to having a real problem and… and I don’t think that’s funny ‘cause I’ve lost a lot of friends.”

In her latest video, “Raise Your Glass,” which premiered on Monday on VEVO, Pink took on her biggest opponent yet.

“I am the working class American, fighting the big sumo wrestler who is basically Wall Street,” she said.
