The Access “Week In Geek” hits the 2011 Toy Fair, where Michael Caine reveals what he loves about his new “Cars 2” character, and “Mad Men’s” Christina Hendricks talks about voicing Lois Lane in the animated “All-Star Superman.”
THE STARS HIT THE TOY FAIR – Michael Caine and Emily Mortimer took the stage at a panel discussion in NYC to talk up Disney & Pixar’s June 24 release, “Cars 2.” Caine lends his voice to a new British secret agent character, Finn McMissile.
“He’s a spy, but a very sophisticated technological spy, he’s way up there, very advanced,” Caine revealed to Access Hollywood following the panel.
“They showed me a drawing and I loved it. It was like a small English sports car like in the old days we used to have: Morgans and Austin Healeys and all that when I was young,” he reminisced. “So it was absolutely fabulous for me.”
The two-time Academy Award winner has been having fun working on the film for almost two years, and revealed he still hasn’t quite reached the finish line.
“A lot of it you do with the director over the computer. It’s a lot of fun, every now and again. For a very long time,” he laughed. “We haven’t fished yet. We finish in June.”
Marvel’s big screen superheroes Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans stopped by the Hasbro showroom to check out their Thor and Captain America action figures, while director Michael Bay and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were spotted in the lunar surface-themed room filled with items based on “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.”
Though, admittedly, perhaps the hardest thing to miss was none other than Optimus Prime, who was parked outside the midtown NYC showroom complete with his full cargo bay in tow.
Fans can look forward to a highly realistic line of collectible tie-ins to Warner Bros.’ big budget “Green Lantern.” The action figures and collectible busts bear more than a striking resemblance to star Ryan Reynolds. The line from DC Direct also includes life-size replicas of the iconic hero’s power ring and battery and power ring as they will be seen in the film, set for a June 17 release.
Those ‘80s animated icons, the “ThunderCats,” are returning to the airwaves on The Cartoon Network in late 2011 with an updated anime design and fast-paced adventures. A detailed set of action figures debuted at the Bandai booth, featuring all the revamped characters, figure designs based on the original classics, and a Sword of Omens replica complete with a glowing Eye of Thundera for all your role playing needs.
CHRISTINA HENDRICKS TALKS VOICING LOIS LANE – At the world premiere of “All-Star Superman” at the Paley Center For Media in NYC, “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks talked to Access Hollywood about lending her voice to the legendary Daily Planet reporter.
“I was so excited. I grew up on Superman, and every girl wants to be Lois Lane, so I was thrilled,” she revealed.
The animated feature is an adaptation of the revered comic book series chronicling Superman’s last days on Earth following Lex Luthor’s successful scheme of overdosing the Man of Steel with solar radiation.
While she has become accustomed to her 1960’s costumes, hair and makeup for her hit AMC show, some time in the voiceover booth was a welcomed change for her.
“The nice thing about doing voiceover is that you’re in this small room and you feel like you’re just working in a bubble. So I just got to really have fun with the material,” she said.
“I actually kicked off my high heels and was barefoot while I did this,” she laughed.
Although Henry Cavill was recently cast to suit up as the next big screen Superman, her “Mad Men” co-star Jon Hamm was a popular choice that consistently popped up online as a “people’s candidate” to take on the role.
“I’m sure he could do Superman. He could do it. I’d believe that,” she smiled.
