Adam Lambert Talks AMAs Fallout: ‘You Can’t Jump To Conclusions About Me Based On One Performance’

It’s been weeks since Adam Lambert made headlines with his performance on the American Music Awards and although his set got him booted from several appearances on ABC in the days since, he is fine with how that night went down.

“No regrets,” the “American Idol” runner-up told Barbara Walters on her “10 Most Fascinating People of 2009” special Wednesday night.

Adam explained that his performance, which saw him thrust a back up dancer toward his nether regions, kiss a male keyboardist and give the middle finger to the camera, was the result of giddiness.

“To be honest with you, I just… Adrenaline is a funny, funny thing and… I got really excited,” he said after Barbara asked him why he did all those things on the show.

When asked how his AMAs performance will affect his career, Adam suggested people should not stereotype him based on that show.

“I don’t think that you can really jump to conclusions about me as an artist based on one performance. That’s an ignorant thing to do,” he said.

During the show, Adam also opened up with Barbara about his decision to confirm he is gay, which the singer did not long after the “American Idol” finale earlier this year.

“I’m a very open book. I kind of wear myself on my sleeve,” he said. “Yes, I am a homosexual, deal with it… It doesn’t really matter who I’m sleeping with, what matters is I’m singing. It’s my voice.”
