Advance ‘Spider-Man’ Tickets Selling At Record Pace

LOS ANGELES (May 2, 2007) — “Spider-Man 3” is off and flying, with record-setting opening-day ticket revenues in Asia on Tuesday.

The film, which opens in the United States on Friday, topped the first-day grosses for Spideys 1 and 2 in both Japan and South Korea. It enjoyed the biggest opening-day ever for any film in Hong Kong and South Korea.

In Japan, the film’s first day brought in an estimated $3.5 million. In South Korea the take was $3.4 million.

Additionally, advance ticket sales are also being sold at a record pace.

According to Fandango, moviegoers in the U.S. have already purchased five times as many advance tickets for “Spider-Man 3” as they did for “Spider-Man 2” and two-and-a-half times more than “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest,” making it Fandango’s fastest-selling movie of the year so far.

Because many theaters have already sold out dozens of Thursday, May 3 midnight shows around the country,a lot of locations are adding a 3 a.m. showing to the schedule as well.

Sony Pictures’ “Spider-Man 3” stars Tobey Maguire as the comic-book superhero, with Kirsten Dunst as his enduring love, Mary Jane Watson.
