Alec Baldwin: Done With Public Life & NYC

Alec Baldwin will be stepping away from the public eye and possibly heading west.

The headline-making actor, who was accused of hurling homophobic remarks at a photographer last year, is speaking out about stepping back from the spotlight.

“I’ve lived this for 30 years, I’m done with it,” he wrote in an article for New York magazine.

“I’m aware that it’s ironic that I’m making this case in the media,” he continued. “But this is the last time I’m going to talk about my personal life in an American publication ever again.”

”[2013] was actually a great year, because my wife and I had a baby. But, yeah, everything else was pretty awful,” the 55-year-old actor wrote.

He also took aim at CNN’s Anderson Cooper in the piece, dubbing him the “self-appointed Jack Valenti of gay media culture,” and Rachel Maddow, who he called “a phony who doesn’t have the same passion for the truth off-camera that she seems to have on the air.”

“I haven’t changed,” he wrote. “But public life has. Now I loathe and despise the media in a way I did not think possible… Paparazzi today are part of a network that includes the Huffington Post and, much to my dismay, even NBC News, in their reliance on tabloid reporting.”

Alec also hinted that he could be leaving New York City possibly for Los Angeles.

“I just can’t live in New York anymore,” the actor explained. “Everything I hated about L.A. I’m beginning to crave. LA is a place where you live behind a gate, you get in a car, your interaction with the public is minimal. I used to hate that. But New York has changed.”

Alec also touched upon Shia LaBeouf, who he was slated to co-star with on Broadway in “Oprhans.”

“LaBeouf seems to carry with him, to put it mildly, a jailhouse mentality wherever he goes,” he wrote. “He had that card, that card you get when you make films that make a lot of money that gives you a certain kind of entitlement. I think he was surprised that it didn’t work in the theater.”
