Alec Baldwin On Oscars Gig: ‘Some People Will Say It’s The Worst Choice In The World’

“30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin is keeping a sense of humor about his just-announced Academy Awards co-hosting duties with Steve Martin.

“Some people will say it’s the worst choice in the world,” he said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, while serving out other co-hosting duties at the Film Foundation’s screening of “The Red Shoes” in New York City on Tuesday night. “They’ll say, ‘What, are they kidding?’”

Alec also joked about his co-host, a well-regarded bluegrass musician as well as a Hollywood star.

“I told them I do not play the banjo,” Alec said, referencing Steve who is an accomplished banjo player. “I’m doing it out of my respect for the Academy.”

The 2010 Academy Awards will be held on March 7.
