Allison Williams’ ‘Peter Pan Live!’ Flight Fears

It takes work in order to learn how to fly and Allison Williams has been training for over two months for her upcoming role as the boy who wouldn’t grow up in NBC’s “Peter Pan Live!”

The actress chatted with Access Hollywood about how she’s prepping to play the beloved character, which she dubbed a “pre-pubescent anti-sexual boy.”

“It’s the most fun I think I can imagine having professionally. Just because every day feels like a whole new adventure,” she told Access about taking on the iconic role.

Creating the needed theatrical magic for the live show has required the “Girls” star to prep in a big high-flying way.

“I started flying two months ago, two-and-a-half months ago. I started doing it right when I found out I got the part. I was like, ‘I have to start flying now, so I can figure out what needs to be stronger.’ The core needs to be really strong, your legs need to be really strong, so I’ve just been working on kind of fine tuning all of that stuff,” she explained.

Despite her training, the actress admitted that she’s still fearful of a mid-flight incident.

“The challenges for flying are simple things like facing a direction is really hard. Once you’ve left the ground, it’s kind of hard to the change direction you’re facing,” she told Access. “I have all kinds of nightmares about coming through the window backwards… but it’s so fun. It’s exactly as fun as you’re imagining. Whatever you’re imagining, that’s exactly how fun it is.”

The actress explained that transitioning from playing Marnie on her hit HBO series, to playing a young man has been an exciting challenge.

“The funny thing about it is that going from ‘Girls,’ where I’m not only on a show called ‘Girls,’ but I play a person that’s a woman having sex in a very female way, to [now playing] a young, sort of pre-pubescent anti-sexual boy. [It’s] a real 180!” she said. “But that was so fun for me to start like leaving Marnie’s body… and start sort of getting into the body of like a really playful, adventurous, excitement-driven boy. And that’s been an absolute blast.”

The cast also includes Christopher Walken (Captain Hook), Christian Borle (Mr. Darling/Smee), Kelli O’Hara (Mrs. Darling), Taylor Louderman (Wendy) and Alanna Saunders (Tiger Lily).

“Peter Pan Live!” flies its way to NBC on December 4 at 8 PM.
