The Olympic torch hasn’t been seen much this week, tucked away in Olympic Stadium. That will change beginning tomorrow, when track and field takes center stage at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
One of the athletes to keep an eye on is American sprinter Allyson Felix. She’s a special woman and will be giving her all in an attempt to earn a gold medal at the London games.
“Solo gold in the Olympics. Is that what you want?” Access Hollywood’s Billy Bush asked the Olympian in a new interview.
“That’s what I want,” Allyson replied. “If I walked away with that, I would be happy.”
In addition to her race dedication, the 26-year-old has been very outspoken in her support for drug testing.
“Being an athlete, it’s frustrating because, you know, you see [drug abuse],” she said. “It’s obvious when you’re spending hours on end doing this, and when you see someone come in and cheat you out of your hard work and your dreams, it’s a really frustrating and hard thing to deal with.”
In order to keep drug use out of the sport, Allyson is more than willing undergo required frequent testing, even if it’s a bit inconvenient.
“You have to let them know where you are 24-7, so they can show up anywhere. I’ve had testing in a mall before,” she revealed with a laugh. “I was somewhere in the valley in [Los Angeles], they showed up and we had to go right there in the mall bathroom.
“But I’m thankful for it,” she added. “It’s crazy, but it’s good.”
