Amanda Overmyer Gets The ‘Idol’ Boot; Top 10 Set

And then there were 10.

“American Idol” sent one more contender home on Wednesday night, but before they had a chance to announce the bottom three, Ryan Seacrest thrilled the audience by revealing this season’s celebrity mentors.

Legend Dolly Parton, pop superstar Mariah Carey, composer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Neil Diamond are the icons who will take the “Idol” finalists under their wing in the coming weeks.
Following the announcement it was down to business.

First up was blonde Brooke White, who was sent through to this season’s Top 10.

But Carly Smithson, who sang the classic Beatles ballad “Blackbird” found herself in the bottom three.

“America got it wrong,” a stunned judge Paula Abdul said, shaking her head.

Teenager David Archuleta, Michael Johns and David Cook were next up, and all three were sent to the coveted tour group – the Top 10.

However, Kristy Lee Cook wasn’t so lucky, as she was also sent to the bottom three.

Jason Castro, Ramiele Malubay, Syesha Mercado, and Chikezie were all sent through safely, landing rock chick Amanda Overmyer as the third member of the dreaded bottom three.

But who would be the one to go?

Host Ryan Seacrest sent Carly back to the safe bench, to join the rest of the Top 10, with just one seat remaining.

It was then down to country-versus rock as Kristy or Amanda were about to be sent home.

And the heartland won out over hard rock as Amanda, who Ryan described as “fearless,” was told goodbye.

“I’m thinking, it’s been a run,” Amanda said. “I’m not gonna go on the tour, but number 11 out of all them people is more than I could have expected.”

Amanda bid the audience so long, by once again performing the Beatles classic “Back In The U.S.S.R.”

The Top 10 left standing will hit the road after this season is over for the “American Idol” tour.
