American Idol Finalist Dedicates Performance To Boston; Nicki Minaj Calls Mariah Carey ‘Sir’

“American Idol’s” Season 12 contender Angie Miller paid a touching tribute to Boston on Wednesday night’s show.

The 18-year-old, who hails from Beverly, Mass., dedicated her cover of The Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand By You” to the city.

Angie paused, seemingly taking a brief moment of silence, before saying, “This is for my hometown of Boston.” She then launched into an impressive version of the song, giving it some unexpected twists and turns.

Judge Mariah Carey was impressed by the young woman’s tribute.

“Of course, all of hearts and prayers go out to everyone in Boston. That was a beautiful dedication,” Mariah said. “Thank you for that, on behalf of their friends and families and loved ones, such a beautiful thing to do.”

Host Ryan Seacrest also opened the show by sharing the “Idol” cast and crew’s words for the city.

“Before we start the show… Before we start tonight, we do want to send our support to everyone affected by this week’s tragic events in Boston,” he said. “And with heavy hearts, we’re gonna put on the best show we can for you this evening.”

While the show’s Boston mentions were sweet, there was a sour note at the judges’ table following Kree Harrison’s first performance of the night – “She Talks to Angels.”

Judge Nicki Minaj (in her British accent) said she disagreed with Keith Urban and Mariah Carey’s critiques of the singer, who weren’t floored by her rendition of The Black Crowes’ classic.

“Shocking,” Keith said when Nicki revealed she didn’t concur with her fellow panelists.

Nicki then went on to declare Kree’s performance (which was during the first hour of the show), “the best performance of the night, by far,” (again, in the faux British accent).

Mariah suggested Nicki didn’t understand that she wasn’t calling Kree’s performance “awkward.” She noted she preferred to watch Kree lose “herself in the song.”

“So you don’t really disagree with me,” Mariah added.

The two continued a little back and forth and Nicki sniped at Mariah, “OK, simmer down, sir.”

“Listen,” Ryan Seacrest told Kree after the judges finished their commentary, “it’s just another episode of the family getting along here.”

“American Idol” continues tomorrow night on FOX.
