Over 36 million votes were cast to select “American Idol’s” Top 12 contestants, who were revealed on the Fox show Thursday night.

David Cook, the rocker who performed Lionel Richie’s “Hello” on Tuesday, was the first contestant put through, quickly followed by 17-year-old David Archuleta who continues to make waves with his unique song takes week after week.

Jason Castro, the dreadlocked contestant, who so far has had a penchant for singing with his acoustic guitar was put through third.

Brooke White who sang a stripped down “Love Is A Battlefield” earlier this week was the first woman put through to the Top 12, followed by Syesha Mercado.

Kady Malloy however, the 18-year-old known for her celebrity impressions, was sent home.

“I’ll never forget a moment,” Kady said before singing her leaving song “Who Wants To Live Forever.”

David Hernandez, the contestant whose past as a stripper was revealed in the news this week, was next put through, followed by Australian Michael Johns.

Luke Menard, the handsome carpet layer however, was sent packing.

“You guys don’t even know — this is the first day of the rest of your career and your life. You will see, you will see. I wish you nothing but success,” Paula Abdul said before Luke sang his final song, “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go.”

Petite Ramiele Malubay, the 20-year-old from Miramar, Florida was also sent through followed by Irish powerhouse Carly Smithson.

Rock chick Amanda Overmyer, next faced the music, and took a seat in the Top 12.

Kristy Lee Cook and Asia’h Epperson were then brought up together, to face the final elimination for the ladies.

Simon said, “Based on the song, Asia probably [will go home].”

And he was right. The teenager from Joplin, Mo was sent home, while Kristy Lee Cook, 24, from Selma, Oregon was kept on the show.

“This is one brave, beautiful, talented star and you know what Asia? There’s nothing, nothing that’s gonna stop you. You’re tenacious and you’re brilliant,” a choked up Paula said before Asia sang “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”

As she performed, Danny Noriega, who had yet to find out if he had been put through over Chikezie, had tears streaming down his face.

“Thank you guys for the opportunity. This was amazing,” Asia said as she left the stage. “And, this won’t be the last time you see me.”

Danny and Chikezie next stepped up to face Ryan Seacrest who had good news for one and bad news for the other.

“Chikezie, take a seat, you’re in the Top 12,” Ryan said.

Ramiele grabbed her mouth as she began to sob at Danny’s dismissal and Paula Abdul gave Danny a standing ovation.

Danny then gave one of the most animated performances of the booted “Idols” singing, Soft Cell’s “Tainted Love,” one last time.
