Nick Cannon said his busy travelling schedule – which includes plenty of flights — may have contributed to the blood clots doctors discovered in his lungs, but he is still hoping to head to the East Coast with wife Mariah Carey over the weekend as Whitney Houston is laid to rest.
“We’re definitely trying to figure out the scheduling right now, because I have to be here, working,” the “America’s Got Talent” host told Access Hollywood correspondent Tim Vincent on Friday in Los Angeles. “But you know, we were friends so we’ll definitely be there in some capacity, whether it’s me and my wife, or my wife. We’re definitely there to support the family and you know, give the best memorial we could possibly give.”
On Friday, Nick revealed he was stepping down from his radio show in New York City in order to focus on his health issues, which include two blood clots in his lungs and an enlarged ventricle in his heart, in addition to the kidney issues that plagued him over the holidays.
Nick told Access at the Los Angeles portion of the “America’s Got Talent” auditions that his wife is looking after him very well.
“She is definitely the warden,” Nick said. “She puts it down on everybody. It’s funny. She even sent out an e-mail to everyone here [at ‘America’s Got Talent’] yesterday making sure that my feet stay elevated and I eat enough fruit and I have enough water… And everybody’s like ‘Put your feet up!’ and like sending her pictures and stuff to make sure that I’m following all the orders, but it’s out of love so I appreciate it.”
“America’s Got Talent” will be based – for the live shows – on the East Coast this year in order to accommodate new judge Howard Stern, and the change in location will mean more commuting for Nick.
When Tim asked about travelling back and forth between New York and Los Angeles, where he has a home (Nick and Mariah also have an East Coast residence), Nick said his doctor isn’t pleased with the idea.
“My doctor doesn’t like that much either, but we’re working that out,” Nick told Tim. “There’s a lot of beliefs that, because of my flying, that some stuff has to do with my health too. So, we’re trying to minimize that while we can.
“That’s part of my job too, where I have to travel a lot, so I’m just doing it properly and I’m making sure I get a lot of rest before and take all the medicine I’m supposed to,” he added.
