Amy Schumer Spoofs One Direction’s ‘What Makes You Beautiful’

One Direction famously championed a girl who “don’t need makeup to cover up” in their hit “What Makes You Beautiful,” but Amy Schumer isn’t buying it.

The comedian took on the Brit band in a music video spoof titled “Girl, You Don’t Need Makeup,” which aired on her Comedy Central show on Tuesday night.

Featuring four boy-bander lookalikes, the video begins with the guys singing to Amy about embracing her natural beauty.

“You’re perfect and I think you should know/That you don’t need no makeup, you don’t need no blush/’Cause you’ve got that inner natural glow,” they sing.

After the guys shower Amy with encouragement, the comedian decides to go au naturel, removing her makeup and throwing her cosmetics in the trash. But… spoiler alert! These boys don’t practice what they preach.

“We kinda changed our mind on the no makeup thing/You’d be the hottest girl in the nation with just a touch of foundation/Girl, I can’t be seen with the ghost from ‘The Ring,'” they sing. “Girl, you need makeup, lots and lots of makeup/Think of a clown and then work your way back.”

To make the situation undeniably clear to the now visibly insecure Amy, one of the guys delivers a spoken word bridge, painfully breaking down her facial shortcomings.

“See, it’s like I tore up the shag carpet assuming there were hardwood floors underneath, but it turned out to be just dirty linoleum,” he says. “These are just metaphors, girl. But they are about your face.”

The clip inspired fans to Tweet/Instagram bare-faced photos of themselves with the hashtag, #girlyoudontneedmakeup – and Amy took to Twitter to express her gratitude.

Catch “Inside Amy Schumer” – Tuesdays at 10:30 PM on Comedy Central.
