Andy Dick: I Wasn’t Ready To Leave Dancing With The Stars

Andy Dick became the latest victim of the ballroom axe this week, getting booted from “Dancing with the Stars” on Tuesday.

While the comedian/actor was thrilled he made it as far as he did in the strict competition series (he and partner Sharna Burgess made it more than halfway through the show), he believes he had more to offer – and perhaps more to give than a few celebs who outlasted him.

“I’m just gonna be honest — I feel that there are people that are on show that I could have been a better dancer than,” Andy told Kit Hoover and Billy Bush on Friday’s Access Hollywood Live. “I think there a people that have hit their plateau – a couple of them. I still have potential. I was still growing.

“I was just gaining my momentum like a horse in a race and then, ‘You’re out.’ And I wasn’t ready to go,” he continued. “I really wasn’t ready. I wanted to win.”

The 47-year-old funnyman said he gained confidence in himself throughout the process, especially after receiving support from industry friends and family.

“The whole cast of ‘Less Than Perfect’ came to the show. That was amazing,” he shared, referencing the early 2000s sitcom on which he starred. “And a bunch of people I’ve worked with in the past – Ben Stiller, Judd Apatow [also contacted me] and I said, ‘Come to the show and let the world know!’ And they’re like, ‘No – we’re gonna watch from our house.’ They were all pulling for me and I loved that.

“But the thing that made me feel the best was my family. I loved having my kids there,” he added.

Andy said experiencing his “Dancing” struggles and accomplishments in full view of his three children strengthened his relationship with his kids.

“Being able to dance for them… to have that opportunity was crazy,” he said with a smile. “And they were pulling for me and they’re just the best… It’s amazing that they turned out so great. That’s because their mothers are phenomenal, because I wasn’t always around.”
