Andy Samberg Recites 7 Not-So-Dirty Words In First Emmys Promo

Andy Samberg won’t make his Emmys hosting debut until September, but he’s already keeping censors on their toes in the award show’s first promo.

The comedian paid tribute to the late George Carlin in Friday’s teaser, suggesting a series of questionable words to use during the live broadcast.

“We’ve all heard of the seven dirty words you can’t say on TV,” he said in the clip. “But what about the seven words that sound dirty that you can say?”

Andy went on to list such examples as “Shuttlecock,” “Kumquat” and “Annals,” and tried to keep the final entry under wraps.

“You’ll have to tune in Sept. 20 for the last one,” he said with a grin, before caving to temptation.

“It’s ‘but,'” he revealed. “That’s the last one. But tune in anyway!”

The “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” star told reporters at the TCA summer press tour on Aug. 6 that he knows he has big shoes to fill when it comes to his newest gig.

“Tina [Fey] and Amy [Poehler] are the standard I think,” Andy said of his fellow “SNL” alums. The actor added that he’s open to recruiting other pals for creative support if necessary – specifically, his Emmy-winning comedy trio.

“I think Lonely Island will want to do something if we think of the right thing. … If there’s something good, we’ll go for it,” Andy said.

“I think I’d be surprised if there was nothing pre-taped,” he added. “That’s kind of been where I’ve had the most success in the past.”

The 67th Emmy Awards air live on Sunday, Sept. 20 at 8 PM ET/PT on FOX.
