Angelina Jolie Receives Honorary Damehood From Queen Elizabeth

It was a union of American and British Royalty on Friday when Angelina Jolie received one of the highest honors from the Queen of England.

The 39-year-old actress was presented with the Insignia of an Honorary Dame Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in London.

The Oscar winner, who looked stunning in a lilac skirt and matching jacket, was recognized for her work to end sexual violence in war-ravaged areas.

Angelina’s new title – honorary dame – is the female equivalent of the title of knighthood and the highest honor that can be given to a citizen of the British Empire.

Since the actress is not a citizen of the Britain, her damehood is honorary, but she would still be able to use “DCMG” next to her name.

Back in June when it was announced that the actress would be honored for her work co-founding the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative, Angelina spoke out about the Queen recognizing her efforts.

“To receive an honor related to foreign policy means a great deal to me, as it is what I wish to dedicate my working life to working on PVSI and with survivors of rape is an honor in itself,” she said at the time. “I know that succeeding in our goals will take a lifetime, and I am dedicated to it for all of mine.”
