Angelina Jolie Talks ‘Maleficent’

Angelina Jolie stepped into the dark robes of one the most shudder-inducing fairy tale villains of all time for her next big role.

The 38-year-old beauty – who plays the title role in Disney’s “Maleficent” – explained how she and the film crew approached Sleeping Beauty’s nemesis in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“The exercise wasn’t how can we have fun with a villain?” Angelina said. “It was: What turns people evil and vile and aggressive and cruel? What could have possibly happened to her?”

The actress also opened up about undergoing a double mastectomy last year and the support she’s received since publicly revealing her health battles.

“Wherever I go, usually I run into women and we talk about health issues, women’s issues, breast cancer, ovarian cancer,” she said. “I’ve talked to men about their daughters’ and wives’ health. It makes me feel closer to other people who deal with the same things and have either lost their parents or are considering surgeries or wondering about their children.”

Adding, “I was very, very moved by all the support and kindness from so many people.”

“Maleficent,” which also stars Elle Fanning, is set to hit theaters on May 30.
