Anne Hathaway’s Ex Hospitalized Following Court Appearance

As if his legal trouble wasn’t enough, Anne Hathaway’s ex-boyfriend was hospitalized on Wednesday, according to People.

Raffaello Follieri was hospitalized due to a severe sinus infection following his appearance in a New York courtroom to face charges of fraud and money laundering, a rep for Follieri told People.

“He had an episode in the courtroom which lead to him being transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation,” rep Melanie A. Bonvicino said. “I do not have the specifics on what type of treatment at this time but (it’s) for a severe sinus infection.”

The 29-year-old Italian businessman is now in stable condition, the rep added.

Follieri was arrested on Tuesday and charged with a dozen counts of wire fraud conspiracy and money laundering, after allegedly posing as a representative of the Vatican to fleece wealthy investors in a real estate company that sought to buy and redevelop Roman Catholic Church property.

His bail was set at $21 million.

Following his arrest, Follieri allegedly tested positive for opiates from a urine sample, according to prosecutors.

However, his rep told People that Follieri has had, “a sinus infection for the past three weeks. In the courtroom they said that he had tested positive for opiates, and it’s not the case. He was on a prescription and cough medicine from his doctors that contained codeine before retiring to bed that night. Therefore that is what his doctors told me caused his urine test to be positive.”

Earlier this month, “Get Smart” star Hathaway split from Follieri after four years of dating.
