Anthony Edwards Talks Hopes For Clooney’s ‘ER’ Return: ‘He’d Be A Fool Not To’

Returning “ER” legend Anthony Edwards has some words for his former co-star, George Clooney.

Edwards, who is heading back to “ER” for one episode during the show’s final season as the beloved Dr. Mark Greene, said Clooney should think about making an “ER” comeback himself.

“I think he’d be a fool not to,” Edwards told Access during a recent visit to the set. “But you know, who knows what’ll happen.”

And it appears Edwards isn’t the only one encouraging Clooney to reprise his role as Dr. Doug Ross.

“I know they want to do everything they can to bring everybody back,” Edwards said of the show’s producers.

Edwards was recently coaxed back to County General thanks to correspondence from an old friend.

“I got an email from John Wells, our executive producer, saying, ‘Remember back when… it’s been 15 years since we started the show and we’re gonna try and make this last season something special,” Edwards recounted.

The actor said Wells came up with a “crazy idea” of how he could bring Dr. Greene back, after the character died from a brain tumor at the end of the show’s 2001-2002 season.

Providing additional incentive for Edwards’ return, the “ER” producers sweetened the deal by making a sizable donation to Edwards’ charity, Shoe4Africa.org.

“I said rather than giving me money for this, help me with something that’s really important,” Edwards noted. “I’m involved in building the largest children’s hospital in Africa – and we’re just starting out to raise $15 million to build a children’s hospital that will really be something special.”

Now that he has filmed his part, Edwards encourages fellow former “ER” castmates to get on board the show’s final season.

“I’m happy to say my experience has been good, so I have nothing to warn anybody from doing it,” he said.

Edwards’ return to “ER” airs November 13 on NBC.
