‘Arrow’ Preview: Ra’s Returns, Malcolm Finds Trouble & The Atom Details

Wednesday night’s episode of “Arrow”? You’re not ready.

“We always [knew] what the schedule was gonna be, so we knew this episode had a break [after] it, so it’s designed to be this sort of like crazy cliffhanger, and to have all this amazing stuff in it,” Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg told reporters of “Arrow’s” “Nanda Parbat” episode, hinting at the big, big drama on the way before the show takes a break (from new episodes) until March 18.

Here’s a few things to expect:

Ra’s Al Ghul Is Back!

Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen nearly died after facing off with (and losing against) Ra’s al Ghul (Matt Nable). But, before he faces the demon again, Malcolm Merlyn (John Barrowman) will cross paths with his old teacher, something Kreisberg said he has been waiting for, for a long, long time. “The whole idea of Ra’s al Ghul was really like wish fulfillment on our part, where in Episode 16 of Season 1, after [Malcolm] had almost been assassinated by Deadshot, and he had a little speech where he said, ‘I met a man, and I went to Nanda Parbat,’ — back then, we were like, ‘Oh, maybe one day in Season 3, they’ll let us have Ra’s al Ghul be the villain.'”

“He knows what [Ra’s] is capable of and what he can do,” John said of Malcolm and Ra’s. “There is a reason as to why he’s scared and you’re finding out.”

Oliver & The Battle For Thea Queen’s Soul

If you thought her maiden voyage to Lian Yu was a big deal for Thea Queen (Willa Holland), “Nanda Parbat” raises the stakes for Olly’s little sister. “Willa has just like risen to such amazing heights these last few episodes and continues in this one, and seeing what she’s willing to do and then, what Oliver’s willing to do for her soul. I mean, one of the things we talked about very early on was that this season is really the fight for Thea’s soul,” Kreisberg said. “And more than anything, victory this season for Oliver is saving Thea and she’s caught between these disparate forces!”

Ray Palmer As The Atom

His costume was unveiled earlier this year, but on Wednesday night, expect to see Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh) as The Atom. “I’m really excited for people to see The Atom suit in its full glory and the first time Ray flies,” Executive Producer Marc Guggenheim said. “It’s a big moment for us in so far as the show — it’s not ‘Flash,’ we don’t traffic in these sort of visuals, so it was a big for deal for us to get this kind of character on the show looking the way he does and everything.”

“Arrow” continues Wednesday at 8/7c on The Cw.
