Ashley, Vanessa Talk ‘High School Musical 3’

Though they’re reluctant to admit their contracts are finalized, the cast of “High School Musical” is already talking about the movie’s third, and presumably final, installment of the popular Disney franchise.

“I want Sharpay to win prom queen,” Ashley Tisdale told reporters backstage at the American Music Awards just after the group picked up a trophy for favorite soundtrack.

Her “HSM” classmate Vanessa Hudgens, dressed in a shimmering gold dress, also chimed in.

“Well, this is our last chapter for us Wildcats, so [I’d like to see] graduation, the prom, hopefully everything that comes along with senior drama,” Vanessa laughed.

Vanessa also revealed backstage she is working on her second album, the follow up to 2006’s “V.”

“I’ve only gotten a few songs done,” she said of her progress so far. “I’m waiting to work with a few huge producers and I’m totally ecstatic. I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Though she didn’t expand on the producers in question, Vanessa did offer hints at what her next record will be like.

“It’s a little bit more grown up, it’s a little more jazzier, a little more soulful and it’s a different side of me that people haven’t heard before,” she said.

And as for the AMA the group picked up, Hudgens said she was particularly thrilled to be receiving an award in such illustrious company.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “We’re surrounded by people we look up to. I mean, we got to meet Celine Dion and I nearly died. Just to know we’re being surrounded by these people and I think winning an award is an honor.”
