Ashton Kutcher’s biopic about late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs – “Jobs” — hits theaters on Friday, just as “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” debuts, but the “Two and a Half Men” star doesn’t feel any sense of competition with Oprah Winfrey’s new project.
“I think it’s really dumb that people care about the box office,” Ashton told Access Hollywood on Tuesday night at the Los Angeles premiere of his film. “I hope that people care about the movie and the message of the movie and the art.”
Ashton said he thinks both movies have stories to tell moviegoers.

“I haven’t seen ‘The Butler’ yet, but I’m sure it has an incredible message and is a beautiful film and I know that she attached herself to things that inspire people and make people see the world in a different way,” he continued. “Our goal with making this film is to do the same thing. It’s to inspire people and make people see the world in a different way, make people think a little bit differently, if you will. And that’s what I hope for. I think the box offices are stupid and I think it’s something that like media propagates and I really think it’s a dumb thing.”
Asked about his commitment to the role, Ashton told Access he wanted to honor the late tech legend.

“I admire Steve Jobs and I admire the work that he’s done in the world and I admire the tools that he’s built for us to use to make our life better,” the actor said. “I have a lot of friends and co-workers that knew him and loved him, and I learned to love him too. And I wanted to honor somebody that I loved and admire.”
“Jobs” hits theaters this Friday.
