Audio Expert: Alleged Britney Spears Recording Has Been ‘Manipulated’

Britney Spears’ camp has of an audio recording, posted by Radar Online on Wednesday, which features the voice of a woman – reported to be the pop star — claiming to have been beaten by her boyfriend.

Both Radar and Star magazine each published stories Wednesday, claiming that the woman on the tape is Britney, and that she is speaking to her first ex-husband Jason Alexander. The woman on the recording states that a man with whom she was romantically involved had beaten her.

However, a forensic audio specialist told Access Hollywood on Thursday that he believes the recording has been altered.

“I believe that it has been manipulated in a way to disguise a voice,” Tom Owen of OWL Investigations and Chairman of the Audio Engineering Society Standards Committee of Forensic Audio told Access on Thursday.

Owen added that the recording had been “manipulated in a way that it’s been over processed.”

While Owen wouldn’t say if he believed it was actually Britney’s voice on the tape, he did note that he believes the recording has been “stepped on at least three times.” He did say that his software tells him it has been passed through a filter multiple times.

On Wednesday, a rep for Britney issued a statement to Access denying any claims of abuse.

“Every aspect of the story published by Star Magazine is completely and utterly false and Star Magazine was informed of the falsity of this story before it was published,” the statement from Britney’s rep to Access noted.

Additionally, Access’ Billy Bush spoke to Trawick following the allegations and Trawick told Billy the woman on the recording was clearly not Britney.

When contacted by Access Hollywood earlier on Wednesday, David Perel, Executive Vice President of Radar Online, claimed that the recording was “100 percent verified” and a rep for Star responded that, “Star stands by its story.”
