Blake Shelton ‘Shocked’ By Second CMA Male Vocalist Of The Year Win: ‘I’m Speechless’

Lightning struck twice for country superstar Blake Shelton on Wednesday night as the Country Music Association bestowed the honor of the Male Vocalist of the Year award on “The Voice” mentor for a second year in a row – a feat he never expected to achieve.

“I am beyond shocked! As shocked as I was last year, in the back of your mind you think — last year anyways – ‘Maybe I’ll win this because I’m the underdog– people in the industry feel sorry for me after all these years,’” Blake told Access Hollywood backstage at the show in Nashville on Wednesday. “Then it happened. So this year I thought, ‘Well, they’re not going to play that card again!’”

The award was presented to an ecstatic Blake by gorgeous movie star (and Nashville native) Reese Witherspoon, making the win even more surreal for the outspoken singer.

“When Reese called my name, especially with her standing there, it was like something from a movie. It really was. It’s crazy,” he said. “I told somebody earlier, ‘When I wake up in the morning, it’s going to look like this [award] is actually under my sheets. But it’s not going to be — I’m still going to be that excited about winning this!”

And Blake wasn’t the only big winner in the Shelton house — his wife, country superstar Miranda Lambert, took home her second Female Vocalist of the Year award, an honor that shocked them both.

“Miranda came and she sat down next to me and goes, ‘Is this crazy? Did you pay somebody or something?’ I go, ‘No. I don’t know what to say,’” Blake laughed. “Being CMA’s male vocalist of the year one time is enough to make everything worth it. To be that twice is — listen to me, I’m speechless.”
